Meet Our Administrative Staff
Kelly Ruse serves as the Interim Director of Madrone Trail Public Waldorf School, bringing over two decades of experience in education, leadership, and organizational development. Her background includes founding and directing a private K-8 school, where she focused on creating student-centered learning environments that support both academic and personal growth.
In 2006, she was the co-founder and Director of Makai Day School, a small private school for children with learning difficulties where she helped develop curriculum and manage the day to day operations of the school. With a deep commitment to whole-child education and a thoughtful approach to school operations, Kelly blends practical leadership with a strong understanding of developmental needs and community-building.
As the former board president and active parent in the Madrone Trail community, Kelly is honored to step into this leadership role during a time of transition. She is dedicated to supporting students, families, and staff while helping the school stay grounded in its mission and values.
As a Southern Oregon Native, Luke spent his childhood exploring the forests, rivers, and parks throughout the Rogue Valley. When he wasn’t climbing trees and getting dirty he was playing sports with his friends and brothers. His love of nature and the outdoors eventually turned into a personal and professional passion. He has spent over 2 decades educating youth both as a classroom teacher and an outdoor educator. In his formal education he received a BS in Environmental Science from Oregon State University and a Masters in Teaching from Southern Oregon University, though he would tell you that most of his education came from the many places he has traveled and lived, and his deep interest in the human experience.
After leading international teen service trips to places like East Africa and the Galapagos islands, and working as a wilderness leadership instructor, fate seemed to bring him to Waldorf education at the San Francisco Waldorf School, where he spent five years teaching science and outdoor education…and fell in love with the Waldorf way. Now, with his wife and two sons, he again calls Southern Oregon home. He loves being a part of the Madrone Trail community and supporting the mission to bring this wonderful education to the public.
Cori Royer was born and raised in San Diego, California before going off to college at the University of California, Santa Cruz. There she graduated with a degree in Art with a concentration in Photography and a minor in Education. She continued her migration north, getting her teaching credential at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California.
After graduation, she spent two years in the Straight Up! AmeriCorps program, assigned to a local school where she worked one on one with students in the classroom, ran organized games at recess, and helped at the after school program. During that time she met her future husband, and after finishing the AmeriCorps program moved with him to a tiny town near Garberville, California, deep in the redwood forest. There she got a job at a small, rural, private Waldorf-inspired school as a class teacher in a mixed grade classroom. The school was off grid and had solar power, a back-up generator, composting toilets, no cell service, and a wood stove in each of the two classrooms at the school. She would have to chop kindling and start a fire each morning in winter before the children arrived. She also taught all the subjects, since there were no specialty teachers other than a volunteer parent to teach Spanish. She taught there three years before getting married and moving to the Rogue Valley to be closer to her husband’s family.
In 2011, Cori came to Madrone Trail as the Games teacher when her daughter was 10 months old. A few years later she had her son, and after a brief maternity leave, babywore him while teaching for the rest of the 2014-2015 school year. During the 2018-2019 school year, she was the Interim Director of Madrone Trail. She is now back in Games, and is still in administration part-time as the Assistant Director. In her free time, Cori enjoys hiking in the forest, running, making quilts, reading, bullet journaling, and spending time with her family.
Kelly Stofflet is a dedicated community leader with a strong background in healthcare philanthropy and education. She previously served as a Volunteer Coordinator and Benefactor Liaison for Asante, where she organized volunteer programs, supported patient-centered initiatives, and built meaningful relationships with donors and community partners.
Currently, Kelly is the Business Manager at Madrone Trail Public Charter School, where she supports financial operations and organizational sustainability, and ensures resources are aligned with the school’s mission. She previously served on the school’s Board of Directors, including as Board President, where she provided leadership in governance and strategic direction.
Kelly is also a parent in the Madrone Trail community, with two sons currently enrolled in 1st and 5th grade, both of whom have attended the school since preschool. This personal connection deepens her commitment to the school’s success and the strength of its community.
Kelly brings a collaborative, mission-driven approach to her work and is deeply committed to strengthening both educational and community-based organizations.
